Wingbeats

Wingbeats was originally conceived as I was crossing the sailbridge in Swansea Marina and found myself wondering how it would sound if it were scaled down 20 times and played like a harp. Having briefly explored the visual phenomenon of bird trails in my first film Flatland, it seemed a natural progression to work towards a means of translating their aerial manoeuvres directly into music using software I developed myself.

Since its debut in 2006 it has featured in countless festivals around the UK as well as Brazil, France, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, Bulgaria, Rome, Eindhoven, Bucharest, Austria and the US. Prints based on the film can be seen here.
